Recognizing an unmet need in the region for a hospital dedicated exclusively to orthopedics, several of Kansas City’s leading orthopedic surgeons came together in 1998 with Saint Luke’s Health System to create Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute (KCOI). The hospital officially opened its doors in January 2000 and today, remains the area’s only dedicated orthopedic hospital; providing an advanced level of quality and expertise in orthopedic patient care.
KCOI is an acute care hospital licensed in the state of Kansas. They are the only hospital in Kansas City dedicated solely to orthopedics. Their hospital is physician-owned, meaning many of the physicians on staff have ownership or financial interest in the hospital. This model allows their physicians to have greater control in all aspects of the orthopedic care they provide, which often leads to greater patient satisfaction.
Their success has required them to undertake an extensive expansion that began in late 2016. An additional 22,000 square feet of hospital and clinic space will be completed in February of 2018 with renovation in existing space to conclude in mid-2019. This expansion should meet the needs of the patient care community for years to come.
Through their affiliation with three physician practices (Dickson-Diveley, Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Clinic of K.C., and Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Consultants, Chartered) –all with offices inside their hospital – KCOI provides a comprehensive range of orthopedic services. Whether you are suffering from sports injuries, broken bones, back pain, joint problems, or any other musculoskeletal issue, the physicians of their affiliated practices will provide the expert treatment you need –with the compassionate care you deserve! The hospital offers a walk-in orthopedic urgent care clinic, diagnostic MRI services, inpatient & outpatient surgery, and outpatient rehabilitation all under one roof.
KCOI employs over 300 people between the clinics and the hospital and purchases a variety of goods and services. They prefer to purchase local which is one of the reasons they chose to join the Chamber –to make connections with others who have local businesses and services!
