Horizon Academy is the only fully accredited Kansas City area school specializing in serving children with dyslexia, other language-based learning disabilities, and ADD/ADHD.
Horizon Academy empowers students diagnosed with dyslexia and other language-based disabilities to become effective learners and confident self-advocates. We provide intensive care in an educational environment where children with learning disabilities can experience academic success.
Our academic enrichment serves students in grades 1-12 using evidence-based practices implemented by highly trained educators. Our approach includes Orton-Gillingham Approach, Multisensory Math, Individualized Learning Plan, A Tutoring Center, Testing, and Summer Programs.
Our small class sizes, individual learning plans, and Orton-Gillingham and Multisensory Math approaches are complemented by additional support in the areas of Speech & Language, Occupational Therapy, and Counseling.
Students typically attend Horizon Academy for 2 – 5 years as a transition school, with the average enrollment being 3 years. Success for us, the student, and family is when the student can be transitioned back into a traditional school, after learning the strategies to overcome language-based learning disabilities. Since we opened in 1999, we have transitioned more than 400 students.
