Dr Fulton Addresses Chamber Representatives in Shawnee Mission School District
I had the pleasure today of meeting Dr. Mike Fulton, the new Superintendent for the Shawnee Mission School District, at a gathering of Chamber representatives from the majority of the cities served by Shawnee Mission.
Dr. Fulton brings 23 years’ experience from his previous community in the St Louis area to the Shawnee Mission School District. He has been very involved in several state-wide initiatives centered on innovative ways to prepare students for the future with a focus on college and career preparation.
In particular, his aspirations are to:
- Re-examine the way academic success is measured, focusing more on what you know and learn, not by how many hours you spend in a classroom
- “Future-proof” our learners, since it is unlikely that we can accurately predict what jobs our current first graders will be encountering when they enter the workforce 10 – 15 years into the future.
Dr. Fulton is looking forward to working with students, teachers, parents and the business community to bring success to each student in the district.
If you’d like to learn more about Dr. Fulton, he will be our guest speaker alongside Dr. Todd White, superintendent of the Blue Valley District, at the Leawood Chamber’s September membership luncheon. Click HERE to sign up today or contact the Chamber office at 913-498-1514 extension 2.
