For over 60 years, Community Blood Center (CBC) has provided a centralized blood collection and distribution agency to serve 95% of the blood needs in the greater Kansas City area and its surrounding counties.

During this time, over 800,000 patients have received blood donated at Community Blood Center locations or through blood drives and that number continues growing every day. Today, CBC provides for 65 area hospitals, including University of Kansas Health System, Children’s Mercy Hospital, Saint Luke’s Health System, Truman Medical Center, and many more. To service this need, CBC needs to collect nearly 600 units of blood every day.

The Community Blood Center relies solely on volunteer blood donors to meet the community’s blood needs. Blood can’t be synthesized in a lab, so it is only through donations that CBC can help save lives in such a fundamental way.

After such a challenging year, there has never been a better time to help.  The need for blood is at emergency levels. Blood donations each month are hundreds below what hospitals need. To date, 25,000 blood donors have not returned to give blood and many high schools and colleges have not resumed their blood drives making an already difficult situation even more challenging.

If your business is looking for opportunities for your employees to give back through community service and feel-good team-building exercises, contact CBC to host a Blood Drive.  Donating blood together raises spirits, increases morale, and saves lives – all for just an hour of your time.
