Retail Seminar
The Leawood Economic Development Council’s Full Council met on Friday, May 11 and heard from an expert panel of Retail experts on the “State of Retail”.

Panelists included:
o Mike Berenbom – Vice President – Investments, Lane 4 Property Group
o Len Corsi – President, Johnson County Management
o Phil Peck – Retail-Investment, Block & Company, Inc. Realtors
o Amy Watkins – Director of Marketing, CBRE / Park Place
o Jeannie Wilcox – Marketing Director, Washington Prime / Town Center Plaza | Crossing

Having panel members representing several different disciplines in the retail space gave attendees a variety of perspectives on the future of retail from the existing and future tenant perspectives.
Entertainment retail, restaurants, and other activity centered retail is hot right now. National retailers are seeing their brick and mortar store footprints shrinking and these locations will not carry the depth of merchandise they once did, as products can be ordered online and delivered to the stores within 1-2 days at no additional cost to the shopper.

Asia Business Summit
The Leawood EDC was also represented Friday afternoon, as a sponsor for the Asia Business Summit held at the Overland Park Convention Center. Chamber member Enterprise Bank & Trust, represented by Jessica Nollett, was also in attendance.
Participants learned about trade opportunities in various Asian countries including China, Bangladesh, The Philippines, India, Pakistan, Indonesia and Turkey. About 200 people attended this year’s event, which was followed by the Asian Cultural event on Saturday.
