In May 2009, the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City and the REACH Healthcare Foundation commissioned a survey of area businesses to determine the impact of health care costs on their business. The survey results provide insight into the challenges businesses are experiencing to provide health benefits for their employees. Those surveyed were also asked what they wanted elected officials to know about the impact of health care on their business, the implications of a non-employer based system and what resources they felt the Foundations and Chambers could provide on health care costs.

Steve Roling, President/CEO of the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City, and Brenda Sharpe, President/CEO of the REACH Healthcare Foundation will join us for breakfast to present the results of the survey.

Board Elections for 2010 will also take place at this meeting, so Chamber members, make sure a representative from your company attends and votes.(election notices were sent to the voting representative for all member businesses on 08/17/09)

Midwest Cancer Care at Menorah Presents Cancer Prevention with David Bouda, MD at Tallgrass Creek

Midwest Cancer Care at Menorah Medical Center and Tallgrass Creek are pleased to partner to offer a community education presentation on cancer prevention on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. at Tallgrass Creek,13800 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Kansas.

Dr. David Bouda, FACP is a cancer visionary and head of the innovative Midwest Cancer Care at Menorah and will discuss how to boost the immune system to fight cancer, tips for a cancer-fighting diet, ways to increase health through happiness and other ideas to improve overall health. His out-of-the-box approach to treating and supporting cancer patients is garnering acclaim within the medical community and with those fighting the disease on the front lines—the individuals diagnosed with varying stages of cancers from breast to colorectal to leukemia to lung.

Part of Dr. Bouda’s initiative is to get in the trenches and educate the community on patient-centered cancer care that strikes a balance with traditional evidenced-based care. His presentation at Tallgrass Creek will help attendees understand the importance of merging the two approaches for success in treating the individual.

“Hopefully this seminar will encourage people to embrace healthy living,” says Bouda.  “Ultimately that will help add meaning and substance to their lives.”

Dr. Bouda is no stranger to the stress and uncertainty of cancer. He lost his mother in 1977 to metastatic breast cancer, a KU roomma ... (go to www.leawoodchamber.org for more information)
